Kevin Jeffery – Founder & Head Coach

You might look at a Personal Trainer and think they've always been fit, but quite often they know what it feels like to be over or under weight. they know what it feels like to be new to a gym, uncertain of where to even start.

Recking Crew's head coach and founder chose a second career in the fitness industry after beginning his own fitness journey 17 years ago, and there are few people more passionate than he is about helping others achieve their health and fitness goals.

There are so many reasons why a personal trainer is essential to achieving your fitness goals, whether they be weight loss-based, sports-driven or for athletic purposes.

Here`s a few key reasons why a personal trainer may be right for you.

1. we have the power to educate

One of the primary reasons that someone should have a personal trainer is that they can educate you on all aspects of health, fitness and exercise. Knowledge is power and when it comes to your fitness goals, having a proper understanding of what is required for you to reach those goals is incredibly empowering.

Your personal trainer will be able to help you become further educated on how your nutrition plays a role in your fitness journey, what exercises target which muscles, the correct exercise form and so much more. Being able to turn to a fitness professional for any questions you have rather than turning to Google will result in detailed, educated and personalised answers that will help you succeed.

2. we teach you proper form

Having an educated & experienced personal trainer beside you to demonstrate the correct form and technique is invaluable. A personal trainer will ensure you are performing exercises correctly and efficiently, in order to maximize results.

Good form is also essential in reducing the risk of injury. Many people every year are seriously injured by performing exercises they have not received training for, and this can impact their health and fitness for a long time. Having proper guidance in how to execute certain movements and exercises will greatly reduce your level of risk and increase the effectiveness of your fitness program.

3. we make your mental health a priority

It has long been known that physical exercise can help with mental health challenges such as depression and that it is a recommended part of treatment by many medical health professionals.

Many Canadians have to deal with these kinds of challenges at various points in life and for some, having a routine and working towards things that they can control (such as their fitness levels) can be extremely beneficial for their mental state.

Your personal trainer can keep you motivated through tougher times, choose the right exercises to positively impact how your workout makes you feel and be an extra person within your support network to lean on.

4. we keep you on track to start and keep healthy habits

It can take weeks to form good habits, and even longer to break bad ones… and trying to do it on your own is hard work. A personal trainer will help you with setting your daily or weekly goals to help break those bad habits and form new ones that support your long term goals.

Implementing a daily step goal, daily water consumption goal or a week without heavily processed foods are simple ways that they might get you thinking about your current daily habits and the new habits that you want to create.

5. we offer flexibility where you train

Not everyone enjoys the atmosphere of a crowded gym, or having to wait for the machine you want to use to become available.

The benefit of having a personal trainer is that you aren’t limited to working out only where fancy equipment is available – you can choose the location in which you exercise and the equipment.

Whether it’s in the comfort of your own home or in your neighborhood park, with a personal trainer you have the flexibility to workout wherever suits you best.

Here`s a few more reasons why a personal trainer may be right for you.

frequently asked questions about personal training

  • Do you need to be fit before you hire a personal trainer?

Personal Training can be really helpful for those with limited experience or confidence with exercising.

    • This is as old school as it gets.
    • There is no fancy equipment. We like tires and concrete.
    • And we know you’ll just adore the DIY half rack and cable system.

  • Do you have a gym?

    We do not.

Coach Kev does offer limited use of his Private Training Space (affectionately known as RockVegas) to his clients for their Personal Training Sessions and pre-booked independent training.

  • Which gyms do you work in?

The short answer is, we don’t.

Most commercial and small private boutique gyms have their own trainers on staff, and prohibit involvement from outside trainers and coaches.

However, if YOUR gym does allow outside trainers, we are more than happy to work with you there.

Please note that any “guest” fees your gym may charge for our attendance will be paid by you to your gym in advance, and all arrangements for our attendance will be made and confirmed by you.

  • I’m a woman. Will weight training make me big and bulky?

Women who weight train will not build  abnormally large amounts of muscle. This myth needs to be abolished.

Women cannot naturally produce testosterone, thus making it impossible to gain large amounts of muscle mass.

The female bodybuilders that other women identify weight training with, are often times taking steroids.

This allows them to change their bodies in ways that are abnormal.

A woman that weight trains without steroids will be able to shape her body and tone her muscles without gaining added “bulk”. The repeated load on the bones will strengthen them much more than running (popular amongst female athletes) as an example, because most of the actual movement pattern that occurs during running is in the air, where the only force acting on the body is gravity and air resistance.

A strength / weight training female will also strengthen her joints, ligaments and tendons, which will help to prevent injury later in life.

  • Do I need to buy any equipment to train with you?

You do not need to buy any equipment.

We specialize in creating highly effective, time conscious programs that require no equipment at all, often called “bodyweight” exercises.

If you do have some bands for example or a small set of dumbbells, we will incorporate those items into your program.

You do NOT need a full scale gym to get in the best shape of your life.

    Let us show you how.
